differences between std turbo and HP edition 700

In Australia, the HP came standard with the Turbo+ kit.

740 Turbo = 115kW, 253nm

740 Turbo HP = 134kW, 260nm and flatter power/torque curves.

I personally test-drove both an '87 Turbo and an '89 Turbo HP, and the difference was actually extremely noticable. Bought the HP and have never looked back. :-)

To make a regular Turbo give out the same power, simply adding Turbo+ (if you can find one, or just increasing the boost a few PSI) *should* do the trick.

PS- Not sure if the difference is the same in the US.
