240 odometer 200 1991

I have a 1991 245 SE. The odometer stopped working after I removed the instrument panel to install a tack and oil pressure guage. I ahve tried everything. I replaced the troublesome gear and still the problem persists. I think it is the plug that powers it. I can reach up under the dash, with the knee panel removed, and reseat the plug everytime the odometer stops working. But I don't want to have to do that all of the time. Is there a fix for this? I have tried wedges with no great success. I am wondering if I pack the plug with di-electic grease, if that would help. Any ideas? Dead volvo odometers are common and they aren't all due to that little gear.
