Check Engine Light - 1989 200 1989

I've been experiencing what seems to be momentary electrical shut down, imagine someone flipping the power switch off and on really quickly - causing the car to stall (for a split second) and come back on. All while I'm driving.

I noticed that my check engine light came on but I shut it off (flipped switch on back of instrument panel) thinking it was just the 5000 mile oil-change reminder. But then I realized that maybe this wasn't applied until later models. Any ideas?

If this is not the oil-change reminder - is it possible that it is an emmissions related issue (as per Bentely Manual)?
