940 Speedometer gremlin

Help me slay this dragon. My car is a 1992 940 turbo wagon. The speedo/odomoeter/trip meter quit on me a while ago. Occasionally it would work for a few minutes but always quit. Sometimes during cold weather the speedo would simply park itself on 45 mph.

Since then I've swapped out a speedo cluster purchased from ebay. No change, the replacement acted the same as the original cluster; dead or 45mph.

I checked the wires at the differential sensor and replaced the connectors. Same result. Today I replaced the sensor itself (can't believe what the Volvo robber barons get for this tidbit). No change.

I've read the FAQ and still don't have an answer. $200 later; Will I run out of money or lose my mind first?

Certainly somebody has solved this damned problem before.

Do I hate electrical problems more than you?

tks,

frustrated in NC
