Guys,
I am really stumped with this one. I posted this about a week ago and still have not solved it. Here is the situation:
1. There is a howling/vibration low frequency noise coming from what sounds like the front passenger side of the car. The vibration is getting larger and larger and is only speed dependent and completely unrelated to engine RPM. At 50+ mph I am scared that the car is coming apart- becoming very loud. It sounds similar to the tire noise on a jeep or large truck that has ‘monster’ tires installed.
2. I thought it was tire related, and put a complete separate set of wheels on the car- this changed nothing.
3. Several posts suggested that it is driveline related. I pulled the driveshaft and changed the rubber mount that holds the center bearing. The bearing looked very good and seems to roll smooth. The trans mount is good- I checked when installing the driveshaft mount.
4. I jacked up the front end and shook the hell out of each front wheel. They do not move and there is no shaking. they seem ok.
5. I do not believe that this is related to the braking system. Both rotors are good and the pads are not worn considerably.
6. Today I drove to work and had a 7-mile freeway stretch. The noise was very loud, and the vibration was shaking my foot on the gas pedal. After I got off the freeway, I pulled over and put my hand on each front alloy wheel. The passenger side wheel was noticeably hotter than the drivers. It was almost too hot to touch in the center.
I cannot solve this one…….. any thoughts?
