Hello All:

1967 Volvo 122S Wagon. No overdrive. Okay, here is the scenario. On the highway, at speed, the car drives beautifully. Once I arrive at a steep downhill, however, I feel the need to stay off the gas and let the car coast down the hill since pushing the engine past 80MPH seems a bit pushy. During this power-off coast I detect a burning smell and blue smoke starts to pour from the exhaust. All I have to do to make the condition go away is get back on the gas. One final big puff of smoke comes out of the exhaust and then we are back to normal.

If I did not mind pushing Virginia past 80MPH I could avoid this by just applying a little gas, but I feel like this is a window into a larger problem. Any theories?
