AC troubleshooting tips 91 740T 700

Hi folks

For the last year I have had some intermittent AC problems. When it’s hot the AC won’t come on. Last year at times I could get he compressor to come on by running the temp switch back and forth on the control unit (The big one with 3 knobs and two switches.) A couple of days ago I drove 300 miles with it working and when it got a little hotter, no go.

I checked the pressure switch on the canister on the rt. side of the firewall, the switch seems to be closed by ohmmeter reading and there was no voltage at the plug.

I have not yet tried to look for voltage at the compressor switch, but, I’ll do that in the morning.

So here is my question, what other inputs could be bad, thermostats etc, before I have to bite the bullet for a new control unit? AND HOW CAN I CHECK THEM?

B regards

Woody
