Opinions on Tranny Fluid Change. 200

IMO, there is no advantage to the "progressive" fluid change. At a minimum it means a lot of extra, messy work. Plus there is a real risk of damage to the pan when fighting the (usually tightly-frozen) dipstick coupling.

I believe that any sludge in the pan will stay harmlesly where it is. And I have never seen anything in the filter screen worth the effort needed to look at it. So I don't look anymore, after learning of this Technical Service Bulletin:

TSB 17106, Dec 1990

"ATF filter cleaning deleted"

for 200/700/900
for all those AW 70/70l/71/72L transmissions
and for ZFHP22
(Does NOT apply to BW*)

"It is NO LONGER REQUIRED [capitalized in original] to clean and inspect the Automatic Transmission Filter..."
