Check the distributor cap and rotor for carbon, water intrusion, corrosion, and oil leaking into the cap. All of these things make it run poorly.

Also check your coil wire for damage. This sounds like ignition breakdown to me.

If the ignition all checks out, the next thing would be a fuel pressure test. Find out if the fuel pressure goes away when the car has this problem. Could be a hole in the fuel line in the tank, causing pressure loss, or a plugged up fuel filter.

One last possibility: plugged up catalytic converter.
