'88 740 will not shift into OD 700 1988

My '88 740 will not shift into OD. This change occurred suddenly last week. I have changed the relay, swapped the solenoid, checked for current at the connector under the car (present) and can hear the solenoid clicking as the button on the shifter is depressed. I flushed the fluid and the old fluid looks fine. The downshift cable is fully retracted and it shifts into the other gears fine. Is there something else that I'm not thinking about or am I going to have to take this to the professionals ($). Thanks.
