Windshield cowling clips - needed for new style ('91-'92) windshield? 700 1989

The FAQ mentions doing away with the old metal-rubber trim pieces around the windshield by "upgrading" to a '91 or '92 year 740 windshield. What I'm wondering is what to do with the clips on the cowling. On the top side, the clips hold the moulding in place. Underneath, the same plastic clips hold metal clips. I think these metal clips are needed to hold the front of the cowling to the body.

How does the newer-style windshield moulding cover up the plastic clips?

Thanks,

Adam
