Should I Rebuild or Replace

I have a 90' Volvo 740 that I bought on ebay for $600.00 about 3 years ago ( guy thought he found a sucker NOT ) Enging wouldnt run right he replaced injectors among other things hole in map sensor hose HE HE. tranny wouldnt shift properly bad cable HE HE. Anyway i am in the process of sanding this sucker abd was thinking about going all the way I have a spare 230 and I can get my hands on a ford v8 @ no cost . My question is should i rebuild the spare vovlo engine wit performance parts or do the v8 job wich will take more time ?
