Why or where would a kickdown cable 'freeze' 200 1985

Searched and Looked through FAQ's. No luck on:

1985 AW70. Kick down cable "frozen". Just not moveable. Wife driving car, city traffic with starts and stops. Arrives at destination. Less than hour later, starts, trys to go and gas pedal refuses to move. She can't accelerate. Calls me. Bless her heart, she did not try to force it.

Determine kickdown cable locked, preventing linkage drums from rotating. Disassembled linkage and removed kickdown from drum. Drove home, city traffic, shifts smooth and at proper points. Only way to know it is shifting is the tach drops. Cable moves about 1/4 inch then stops, it does retract that same distance. Quick trace of sheath showed no kinks or bends. Most likely internal, and someone has not returned my Volvo Green manual on the tranny.

I'll not be able to get to this until this weekend but any and all ideas are welcome before I start. Bentley at this point is my only guide unless I can get my book back. I will be applying penetating to the cable between now and Saturday.

Thanks in advance.

Duane
