Poor engine, I feel so inept 140-160 1975

I took the old girl for a two hour drive yesterday with two bottles of Textron cleaner in the tank. First hour in second gear at 60, return trip in third at 60, the road is as flat as it gets for 40 miles. No help at all.
When I delivered the car to the new owner, there was a lot of black smoke from the exhaust (understandable) and a lot of rough running. Shifting to N at traffic lights helped.
I am unable to look at the car until next Monday, so the new owner will have a local mechanic take a guess. The new owner also found a place that will clean the injectors - at least #1 and #2. I hope that is what the problem is and not a broken injector! New ones cost $120 around here. Used ones are even harder to find.
