Being very specific here WRT to year model... can someone tell me for sure what year the throttle cable changed on the 140 series cars with fuel injection? I'm currently of the opinion that the '71 and '72 had a different cable than the '73, based on what I find in the Volvo parts catalog. I broke my cable on the race car last month at Hallett, and when I received a replacement the other day, it was immediately apparent that it was for a different car. It appears that many of the importer's catalogs are wrong here, so beware... the GEMO part number involved is 1221663 (catalogued by most online sellers as p/n C7020-15947), and as stated above I think it's for a '73, but the sellers are advertising it as '71 thru '73. In any case, it is too short and the wrong configuration (ball vs clevis) at the firewall end.
Oh yes... the stinkin' cable broke early in the qualifying session, which put me on the outside of the first row beside a 240Z... we should've been on the pole. Anyway, we made a temporary repair to the cable (very ugly - it involved a hood pin lanyard, knots, and safety wire!) to keep us in the 18 lap feature race. Long story short, I got around the 240Z early on and held him off for about 6 laps, but our jury-rigged cable was stretching, and it was enough of a HP loss that I couldn't hold off the Z car any longer. I finished the race in 2nd, but by race end I was only getting about 85% throttle. Bummer.
