Overdrive Problem 120-130

When the drive train is cold, the overdrive works fine. However, after a few minutes (maybe 10 or so), I shift out of overdrive, and attempt to reengage it......nothing. I depress the lever, the light on the dash comes on, but nothing happens.

After this happens, it sometimes feels like the overdrive attempts to engage in 2nd gear. Sounds strange, huh? In 2nd gear it seems to "studder" and then it feels like it slips into a higher gear without shifting. This never happens as long as the overdrive is working and does not always happen in 2nd gear when the overdrive is not working.

I had a good garage who could handle this problem, but they folded last year. My initial reaction is to replace the overdrive. What do you think?

Thanks for your advice.
