740 Temperature Gauge Compensation Board

The temperature gauge on my 1990 740 wagon stays resolutely at the center after the car warms up. Regardless, summer or winter, highway or city, A/C or not. I'd like a bit more information from my temp gauge. Does this 740 temp gauge have a compensation board like some of the 200 series? If so can it be bypassed? I bypassed a bad compensation board on my old 1986 240 wagon. Or is the centered temp gauge a testiment to the superior Volvo cooling system design?
