can I install a pair of bosch foglights without a relay ? 200 1991

I bought a pair of bosch foglights for my 1991 240 I also bought the relay and the foglight switch .After looking at various hookups and trying them I cant get the relay the turn on the lights . I want to leave out the relay and just do a simple installation with the switch. With the relay you leave the larger wires in the engine compartment and the switch uses little current to activate the relay . I dont want to use the relay . Will this be okay? please help . All replies are kindly appreciated , Thanks , rf64
