Sunroof Troubles 900

I have a 93 240T in great shape, everything worked until a couple months ago when the sunroof stopped operating. Investigation in many threads in many forums revealed a concensus that it was the switch.

So I replaced the switch with a new one - no change. With button pressed there is no clicking, no dimming, and no fuses are blown. Does this mean the motor is toast?

Also, how do I handcrank it open, or indeed, should I? I am thinking the motor just needs half a turn to get going again.

Thanks.
