Steering column u-joint binding? 200

Greetings all in Volvoland!

Our stalwart 87 240 wagon has recently developed a problem that I think is one of the steering column u-joints binding and/or clicking ever so slightly.

This might finally be the nail in the coffin for this car, so to speak, unless someone here can tell me the procedure for replacement is straightforward and inexpensive? I am my own mechanic, so can tackle whatever's involved provided no special tools are necessary.

Would love to hear a recommended procedure and/or others' experiences of similar problems and what they did about them.

Thanks!
