Auto Shift Release 700 1991

Hi there... my 740T has been locking the automatic shift in Park lately by not allowing me to depress the release button on top to come out of park. It seems to clear itself if I re-start the car but I think this might be a coincidence. My question is what is the manually overide or is there a failing relay somewhere. 195K miles and strong.....
