steering wheel swap

I would like to swap steering wheels from a 84glt to a 82gl. From what I've read I will need a thin wall socket. Does anyone know what the exact size is? I don't want to buy any excess tools if at all possible. Also I'm assuming the nut is the same size on both steering wheels. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I was also wondering if anybody has a good way to mark the wheel before taking it off. Thanks in advance for any info.
