Sounds like your refering to the flame trap.
Yes the screen comes out. It is only push-fit into the oil breather.

Good luck getting it out without destroying it, due to the tight fit.
Have patience and work it out from the edges all around the outside of it.
If it comes out in one piece, clean it with carb cleaner and reinstall it.

There is nothing technical about it.
