Replacing my fuel gauge. 900

the fuel gauge on my '93 940 works intermittently but stays at empty most of the time. I took it to a local shop who said the gauge needed to be replaced since the wiring was tested as ok. However they said they'd have to order the part and it would be costly. Is there somewhere online I could buy a replacement gauge, even if it's a thrid party brand? Also, how would I replace it?
