Battery cable fire, what is the fix? 700 1989

My 90 seems to have a big casing for the cables as they turn near the right frame rail, that my 88 did not have. Volvo knows about the problem, and ordering a new cable from them should have the fix built into it.

It was a service campaign bulletin back in the day. They may still fix it for free- the fed government doesn't let those things go away, the automaker is on the hook for their screwups forever.

A friend I know drove his 88 744 from CT to DC, 500 miles, and parked it, walked away, and it burned to the ground. The design there is really poor and they just shouldn't have done it that way.

Best advice: separate your cables as much as possible, and use silicone rubber tape or sleeving to cover the positive cable wherever it might rub. Electrical supply houses sell this stuff by the foot.
