Drivers seat adjustment-1990 244 DL 200

I have a couple of questions about the seats.

The first is that the knob to adjust the angle of the driver's seatback screwed off. Of course, neither of my tenagers admit to doing it, but I found the knob laying on the floor. I see a thin metal insert that presumably goes into the knob, but it seems too flimsy to be the only thing securing the knob. Are there other piece(s) I should scour the interior for? I guess I could try to take the passenger one off and figure it out, but don't want to risk breaking something else!

The second question is that the seatbacks seem to be bent or something. By that, I mean that if you sit in the driver's seat, for example, your right shoulder is further back than your left. I suspect something is bent or broken on the seatback, but is this fixable? If so, how?

P.S. This better be the last weekend before my Bentley and Haynes manuals arrive....
