Cost to convert air condition 200 1992

I figure that someone might be interested in this out there. The past 3 years I have been pondering the benefit/cost of converting my 1992 245 from R12 air conditioning to R134A. Over the weekend I would like to report that I successfully completed the conversion. I now have nice/cool air coming from my vents and it was just in time for the 95 degree weather here near Washington, DC yesterday. My total cost for the conversion almost $200 exactly. Here's what I did.

1. Local mechanic evacuated old R12 from the system. Cost $30.
2. Ordered Volvo R134A conversion kit from FCPGroton. Cost $70.
3. Installed conversion kit (amazed at how simple it was to do). No charge. Took me about 3.5 hours going very slowly and double checking lots of stuff.
4. Local mechanic evacuated system again, filled system with 2.2 pounds of R134A and checked for leaks. Cost. $100.

I'll report back to you guys later in the summer to document how well the new system deals with the heat. Hopefully this information will be helpful to anyone who is contemplating the conversion.

Best Wishes.
