Running Hot. 120-130

Yesterday I took a ride in the 122, which has a rebuild B20 in it cooled by a 10" electric push fan. Not thermostatically (is that a word?) controlled. Just a switch I flick when the engine gets real hot.
Anyway I took about a 10 min ride up the freeway (no fan needed) and then drove some in stop and go. During the stop and go with the fan on it seems the engine barely stayed cool. The needle hovered about midway up in the red area! Of course it was very hot out here in the Northeast.
Just wondering what other folks use to keep their engines cool. Should I think about stuffing another fan in front of the radiator? Maybe a bigger one?
Ideas?
Thanks.
