Clunking noise from rear - bad CV joint? 700

I have a 1988 760 tic that is making a clunking sound from the right rear wheel. When the wheel spins faster the clunking sound gets faster. Braking doesn't have any effect on the sound. It sounds more like clicking from inside the car, but when I had the wheel off and turned the hub by hand it sounded like a clunk. The sound seems to be coming from inside the wheel hub. Does this sound like a bad cv joint? What is involved as far as work and cost to fix the outer cv joint? Thanks!
