Stalled on freeway; no re-start. 200 1987

Hello,
87 240 DL Wagon, fuel injected, stalled on freeway one fine day. Will crank over, but not restart. Towed her home, and am looking for the problem.
Fuel pump relay is brand new.
Fuel pumps don't get any electricity when cranking engine.
If given electricity by jumper wire, though, fuel pump runs.
Don't get any spark from plug wires.
Battery is new as of today, but still no improvement.
Odd to have two systems fail simultaneously.
Have not looked at crank sensor- learned about that from other posts- but this sensor is original. But why would this prevent the fuel pump from running.
Have Haynes manual, but still stumped.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
