Front Sway bar link bushing replacement 700 1986

I was trying to replace the sway bar link bushings in my 1986 740 and encountered problems. First, the bottom bolt is not loosening. Next, the top bolt comes off but the sway bar does not clear the bolt to replace or move the bushing. Is there a trick to doing this? It looks fairly simple. Also I was told by the counterperson at Voluparts in Atlanta that the bolts do not need replacing. Is this correct? Please Help!!!
