Engine/AT combos for 122S 120-130

Now that the engine (B18) and trans (M40) from my son’s ’67 122s are sitting on my garage floor (the motivating project being engine compartment derusting/repainting), it was time for a beer and some idle chat about alternative engine/transmission combinations. My son mused about substantially more snap in the engine department and an auto trans with O/D. Recognizing that any swaps of this nature would require firewall, tunnel, crossmember and mounts modifications, what Volvo engine and O/D auto trans combinations might be workable? Anybody out there undertaken a project of this nature?
