Big Fuel Leak Between SU Carbs! 140-160

I saved the fire department a short trip over to the house by catching this fuel leak early. It seems that the lever-activated vent manifold assembly located between the carbs is leaking.

The Haynes manual doesn't show this part -- on Strombergs it looks like their the Hot Start Valve.

this contraption is a plunger activated by the intermediate shaft between the carbs. It is held in place by one of the float chamber screws on each of tha SU HS6 carbs on this B20B engine. It has three curved brass tubes to route vacuum lines to the air intake, and each of the carbs.

This plunger RISES into this contraption at the gas pedal is pressed. It has something to do with venting the carbs, but I don't yet understand what it's function is.

Anyhow, this is leaking -- spewing raw fuel all over the right side frame and inner fender. I am sure it is this that leaks because I removed it then substituted a length of fuel hose directly between the vent tube coming off each of the carb's float lids. No leaks now.

(Can I just leave this valve off?)

I think something might have fallen off it this thing when I cleaned the carbs recently -- there is no bottom to the thing -- you can turn it oven and you're staring at the pluiger.....

Looks like there needs to be a slightly-larger-then-a-penny-sized blank bottom disc to ths thing.

Is this correct?

do I need to repair/replace this valve? What does it do? Does anyone have one from a junked set of SU HS6 carbs?
