A/C compressor is seized or seizing 200

I think "seizing" is the correct term. If I turn on the A/C switch the engine bogs down and smoke flows from the A/C compressor belt.

Are there any options other than replacing the A/C compressor with a new unit? Is this something that can be rebuilt or found at a pick-n-pull yard? I see that IPD lists them for $398! Dang! Not looking forward to that, on the other hand my wife who drives the car most of the time is 20 weeks pregnant and would really appreciate a functioning A/C in her brick.

I'll take any suggestions.

Thanks,
Casey
