rough running @ 2500 rpm 200 1988

I have replaced & checked various components as shown in this thread.

Yesterday a mechanic replaced the fuel filter, set the timing, and adjusted both idle and mixture.

He stated that the old filter was very plugged!

Last night, and still today I have the rough running issue.

I rap 1st gear to about 3000 rpm without much of an issue, however as I go through 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear there is definitely a hesitation almost choking sensation in the range of 2000 to 2500 rpm. It does get past this point but I would really like to find the problem & deal with it. It also has a slight backfire in 2nd gear when I'm pushing it like this.

See previous post for all that I've done. http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=1089820

Three things I'm considering: new plug wires (currently 2 years old ~ 25K miles), checking the main wire harness (the mechanic yesterday told me even with an 88 there could be issues), checking the ECT sensor (said he saw corrosion around it)

Other thoughts?

Thanks

Mike
