I can't stand this anymore. I'm about to go on a trip, have been working with this car to try to fix things, replaced key parts, and I'm getting nothing.
The A/C system worked perfectly on R12 for the first month I had the car. Then the compressor seized and that was the end of it.
I converted to R134 ports and gas, swapped out the compressor, the drier, the expansion valve, and even vacuumed it down to the point where I was getting water drops out of it, though not a really deep vacuum. I blew out the fins on the evaporator with compressed air to clear it out.
I filled it up, and I'm getting no change in temps at all. It blows between maybe a degree below ambient, all the way up to significantly hotter than ambient. I've tried driving it around to get more airflow, but to no avail. I just start sweating badly after 5 minutes, and I'm not a guy who sweats much. I don't get this at all.
I've looked through the sight glass on the drier, and have played with adding different levels of 134, purging on the high pressure side, and re-adding. Nothing seems to work. I've at times gotten a few bubbles to come through the glass, but no streaks. It usually is just a black hole. The low side pipes aren't getting cold either.
I did this job on my 83 245 a few years ago and it worked fine and was much more tolerant to variations in pressure. I didn't change the drier or expansion valve on that one, and it even had a badly kinked metal line going into the evaporator.
This sucks. Please help!
