Rear seat issues.. wagon. 200 1987

Hey All,
Yesterday I scored a pretty nice '87 240 wagon for a friend.. He does light construction and needs to haul long stuff, and is sick of driving his F250 with a 460 V8, hence his need for a Volvo wagon.

So, I bring the car to him, and teh damn back seat doesn't fold down.... the whole point of his getting a wagon.

The seat appears just a bit crooked, as one side isn't latched at all. and the other side is stuck. The release handle does nothing. I stuck my hand up inside behind the armrest to find the cable disconnected, but pulling on it manually doesn't help either, and pulling harder.. it pulled the cable right through the sheath. So that's toast.

Anyone been in this predicament and know exactly where to cut the carpet or upholstry in order to be able to manually release that latch? The seat is in good shape, so I'd prefer to keep damage to a minimum... but it's also a $500 car, and until the seat goes down, it can't be used for it's intended purpose.

Thanks,
