A/C Compressor...ouch 200 1989

Travelling out to Western Canada beginning yesterday early a.m. Four hours in, my wife swears she can smell something, of course I can't. Minutes later, I'm pulled over and it's seized up. I should have listened to her!! Off came the belts and I'm now carrying on in 30C/90F Temps minus A/C, P/S.

Anyways, 2 questions.

Can these be rebuilt? I guess it depends on just how cooked it is. I'm hoping it's just bearings...

Secondly, If I end up getting a new/used one or even getting it rebuilt, anything special I have to do? Can I just do a simple swap or do I have to get a whole charge etc. done? I'm 2 days away from being able to get some answers from a garage, so any answers you folks could give me would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Jamie A
