Hard start on hot days only (i.e. all summer!) 200

Seriously, only hot days. On a cold morning, I have no problems. I also have no problem if I turn the car ('89 240) off and return for another errand an hour or so later, while the engine is still a little warm. So to get the thing started when the engine is cold on a hot day, I have to give her a lot of gas until she stays running, at which point the idle is very rough at about 200 rpm but jumps back up 800 or so after maybe 20 seconds, and then I can go... I experience no problems on my trip after starting- no idle problems at stop lights, etc.

I removed the TPS to check it out- lots of oil on the inside, but I'm not sure how to tell if it's bad. I tried listening for the click (with the help of a roomate) when I turn the key, but we don't hear anything. I'm not sure if we're missing it or if it's just not there.

I checked the vacuum end of the pressure regulator- no gas, but I don't know how to verify that the pressure is high enough. And anyway, wouldn't pressure regulator problems affect a lot more than just starting?

Though I didn't check it this time, I have replaced the flame trap within the last few months.

The throttle plate is also fairly clean - no sticky edges, etc.

Any other thoughts? I'm about to start replacing things just to see what happens, but I figured I'd consult brick board before consulting my wallet...

Thanks for any ideas!
