960 AC question? 900

I have a 1992 960 recently I had the car serviced and they found leaks in the AC compressor. They replaced it and it ran well for a few days. On occasion when you would start the car you would hear a loud thump noise form the ac and the it would kick in. On occasion the cold air would not work at all.
I took it back to the AC shop and they refilled it and it worked again for a few days and now its not working again. Does any one know what this could be?
