a/c woes after control unit replacement 700 1991

I replaced my MCC a/c control unit about six weeks ago and the a/c has been working fine up until today. I hadn't driven the car in four or five days, and when I turned it on (the a/c) I got hot air (it was 90 here in NY today) and it never cooled off. When I turn off the a/c switch and turn it back on, I hear the click of the switch going on, but no sound of the a/c clutch engaging. What should I check before I break down and make an appointment with my friendly local Volvo dealer?

Thanks.
