88 A/C system

OK, I have an 88 245 that, as best I can tell, will need a new A/C compressor and low pressure switch (if not more). I have looked around and done some reading and looking at 90-newer cars i noticed that the a/c systems are different and that aparantly the 90-newer orifice tube systems cool better. Is this true? If so is it possible to remove the system minus anything under the dash and condensor from a donor 90 or above and put it in my 88?

Also, I know the 88 uses an expansion valve and for the life I can't determine where it is; any ideas?

I plan to buy a new compressor and drier no matter which way I go and completely flush the system but I would like to do all that with the newer system if it works better.

Thanks for any help given!
