SO ,
I have apprx 150,000 miles on my brick. And I have been having auto transmission problems. I know these are usually good for 200+ but I think mine is on its last leg. I flushed apprx 6 months ago. (14 quarts return line method)
The problem started one day by shifting really hard when I was reversing.. A few days later Sometimes when I come to a stop. When the light turned green and I pressed on the gas nothing would happen. I experimented and tried putting in reverse same effect. If you run the rpms over 1000 eventually she lurches forward with harsh gear engagement.This problem has temporaily stopped.BUT.. Now several weeks later. She will not shift at all when cold. AS soon as she wams up she is good. Apprx 10 minutes. I usually warm the car for 5 minutes then drive slowly keeping the rpms under 2500 and if the sludge box is still not shifting manually putting the car into 2nd then back to Drive will correct the problem and allow gear change .Also. sometimes untill Really warmed up 15 minutes. She doesnt kick down into first and I take off in 2nd maybe 3rd. gear.. The CATCH. when i put the car in first gear and I accelerate when I let the cars rpms drop I hear a NASTY grer gerrl grerl sound. Much louder and nastier than a Reverse gear noise. But similar. Kinda of a grinding whining sound that ceases immediately if in any other gear that First. Also... I jacked up the car and spun the rear whells. At the point where the driveshaft mates with the transmission I hear weird Worn bearing sound when rotating the driveshaft... So what do you Brickboarders advise. I have never removed a transmission . I have done a power steering rack on a few volvos as well as the usual maintainence/repairs.. WHat should I DO?? Also if it is TRANNY time any other suggestion for repairs. What other parts should i get(I am already doing the rear main while I am there) Thanks a Bunch...
