Power steering Question

I just returned from vacation-drove the 960-I now have a small leak in the power steering hose under the car. It's the long hose that is going around in circles down there.
Back a year or two ago, I went 4 wheeling with the car-took the skid plate and other things off-we don't want to go there though.
The question is -on the hose there is a small nick that now is giving a small leak and probally will rupture if I keep driving it. I just got under the car-one side of the hose is hooked with a regular hose clamp to a metal tube-the other side is seam fitted to metal tubing that leads back to the rack and pinion. Should I replace this whole unit(know thats costly)or should I cut the bad section out and put a metal tube in as a stint and connect with hose clamps? Would what I'm asking to do hold up?
Thanks for all responces.
