Adjusting Fuel & Temperature Gauges ..... 200

1986 DL Sedan Stick. A few weeks ago I Inquired about if temperature guage could be adjusted as I had replaced my cluster and this new temperature gauge read a bit lower then old one did(which read right in middle)(P.S.- both old & replacement cluster had temperature compensation board bypassed). Then last week I read about fuel gauges in the 240's being notoriously incorrect. When in orange/nearing empty zone there still is 2 to 3 gallons left in tank. So I decided to see if these 2x gauges can be adjusted. Happy to report that indeed they can. Both are similar(both are by VDO)and adjust similar. After taking out cluster and after taking off rear of cluster(7x screws)each gauge is held on by 2x nuts & washers at rear with 2x spacers at front. Each Gauge has 2x small(aprox. 1/8") holes top & bottom on rear. Pressing against rear metal within these holes are edges of what I will call little gears. Thru bottom holes(did not use top holes at all - not sure what this adjusts) using A jewelers screwdriver I pressed/shimmyed gear/gear teeth so as to adjust both fuel & temp gauge needles up a little. Put it all back together and what do you know it worked. Had to re-do it just once to fine tune & get needles right where I wanted them. Only helpful hints with adjustment I might add is that with temp gauge adjust needle so as it is at very bottom line of gauge and with fuel gauge adjust needle so as it is about 1/2" below orange zone. Hope this is helpful to someone someday.
