Learning the brick 200 1991

I've never even sat in, let alone opened the hood on a brick before this spring. I have however, worked on my share of rolling stock so maintenance issues do not worry me. This site is a wealth of information to learn about the ideosincrecies of "The Brick". I was looking for a good SAFE used car for my 16 YO daughter to get her through school years. Based on talking to a friend who loves the 240 sedan and dabbles in used cars we found her a 91 sedan with 98k miles on it. Other than changing an alternator, some oil and a general under chassis inspection the car looks and drives quite soundly.
I did notice the left front A arm had quite a bit of corrosion on the gusset support area (leading edge)is this common? I am inclined to ride it out for a while but if it is more of an issue than I think I would appreciate some feedback. I'm looking forward to visiting this site often and hope I can be of help at some point myself.
