Lever for climate control selection is stuck - likely culprit? 1986 740 700 1986

The lever to select the climate control mode is stuck toward the right. It can either be put in the defrost or up/down-arrows position, but not the other positions. It worked fine yesterday, but seems the lever might break if I try and force it to the left. Suggestions on what might be the cause or fix would be greately appreciated.
