Anyone know what this connector controls?

This is an extra post on this subject to clarify - hope it is ok.

Below is a diagram of the back of my 89 760 instrument cluster, which is partially defective. I found an 88 with the exact same cluster (appearance), and bought it. As I start to install - I note the SB connector is different - the 89 has four wires going to four connection points - the 88 has three.

If I know what this is for and what that forth wire might be for - I am thinking I might leave it off and use the 88 cluster. Here is another diagram that might help some who can read diagrams.
