When to replace clutch friction plate? 700 1991

Clutch life seems to be totally dependent on the driver. The PO wiped out the disc at 135,000 mi. At that time I installed a new disc and T/O bearing but I did not replace the pressure plate and have since added another 296,000 miles (total 431,000 mi)and it is still working just fine. Be sure to inspect the pivot and lever these are prone to wear through.

I would look at the friction material and see just how close the rivets are to the surface. This will be a judgement call depending on just how much you slip the clutch at take off.

If you decide to clean it use a non-petroleum based solvent such as lacquer thinner. Mineral spirits will not work.
