blower motor - where does this wire go? 200

i am finishing the dreaded blower motor project. the passenger side is back together and now starting to button up the left side. but before i complete the left side (and close off access to the motor & wires) i have noticed a wire i hadnt thought too much about.

to recap, the old motor came out ok. i cut the ground (black) like the directions said and the red wire came out with the motor. the old resistor wires go through a rubber grommet, thru the plastic housing and out the top where they terminate into a white plastic fitting that connects to the back of the blower switch. well, since i had the ipd kit with new resistor and white plastic fitting, i simply cut the wires at back of the old white plastic fitting and took the resistor out (so now i had the 4 wire resistor and the white plastic fitting with about 1 inch of wires sticking out. however, not only did the old white plastic fitting contain the 4 stumps of the wires from the resistor, it also had an additional wire, a thicker guage black/white colored wire. this wire goes into a wiring harness somewhere back in the dark recesses of the dash.

i looked at the new white plastic fitting that is attached to the new resistor and it did not contain this black/white wire.

the question: what is this black/white thick guage wire for and can i just connect the cut off piece sticking out of the mess to the cut off piece that ends in the old white connector (and transfer it into the new white connector)?

i wish i could just take a picture and post it - does this make any sense at all? i'm going to make coffee while waiting for any replies (too early for beer...) - thanks! garry mawhinney
